Marlon C. Griffith

 Litigator & Fractional General Counsel

Marlon's Bio

A Washington, D.C. litigator known for fierce advocacy and a consistent record of results.

Marlon Griffith is the founder and principal litigator of The Griffith Law Group PLLC - consistently recognized as one of Washington, D.C.’s top trial lawyers.

His clients span small and mid-size businesses, executives, and nonprofit organizations navigating legal disputes throughout Washington, D.C., Maryland, and beyond.

Before launching his private practice, Marlon served as Chief of the Trial Division at the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia (PDS) — nationally acclaimed as the premier public defender office in the country. In this leadership role, he directed a team of more than 60 trial attorneys handling high-stakes criminal and juvenile cases before D.C. Superior Court.

With over 16 years of entrepreneurial experience, Marlon brings a rare real-world business perspective to both his legal practice and his podcast, Kicking Ass & Taking Names: Business Owner Empowerment Podcast — where he confronts the raw, unfiltered challenges business owners face every day and empowers them to stop being consumed by their business and start building one that works for them.

Some of Mr. Griffith's successes include:

  • Secured a mid seven-figure settlement from the federal government on behalf of a minority-owned government contractor in the U.S. Court of Federal Claims.
  • Successfully challenged a denied Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) certification, compelling a reversal at the agency level after filing an appeal and memorandum of law with the circuit court.
  • Successfully obtained a Rule 12(b)(6) dismissal in the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts, defeating the plaintiff's claims at the earliest stage of litigation.
  • Negotiated a Stipulation for Dismissal with Prejudice in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, permanently resolving the matter in the client's favor.
  • Secured a Judgment of Acquittal on the lead felony charge in DC Superior Court and a hung jury on the remaining charge — protecting the client from conviction and delivering a powerful result at trial.
